Accessibility Statement

Serenity Homes Wellness is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology. Given who we support, we treat this as a basic requirement rather than an optional extra.

The standard we aim for

This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the international standard for web accessibility, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. It is organized around four principles: content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.

We believe this website currently conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Conformance is something we maintain rather than achieve once, so we re-test whenever we make changes.

What we have done

Specific measures built into this website include:

  • Every function can be operated with a keyboard alone, without a mouse
  • A skip link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches, so navigation can be bypassed
  • Focus indicators are clearly visible as you move through the page, and are never hidden behind other elements
  • Text and interface colors have been individually checked against WCAG AA contrast requirements
  • Information is never conveyed by color alone
  • Images carry meaningful alternative text, and purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers
  • Form fields have proper labels, clear instructions, and errors that are announced and explained in plain language
  • When a form is submitted, the outcome is announced to screen reader users
  • Headings follow a logical order, with one main heading per page
  • Links and buttons have descriptive names that make sense when read out of context
  • Links that open in a new tab say so
  • Touch targets are large enough to use comfortably
  • The site is readable at 200 percent zoom and works on screens from 320 pixels wide
  • Page structure uses landmarks, so assistive technology can navigate by region
  • Animation is gentle and is switched off automatically for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion
  • Smooth scrolling is disabled for anyone who has asked for reduced motion
  • There is no flashing or blinking content
  • The site works without JavaScript for reading content

How we test

Accessibility is checked automatically on every page each time we make a change, using industry-standard testing tools. Those automated checks are backed by manual testing with a keyboard and with a screen reader.

We do this because automated tools alone catch only part of the picture. A page can pass every automated check and still be difficult to use, so the manual passes are the ones that matter most.

Compatibility

This website is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, on desktop and mobile, and with the screen readers commonly used alongside them, including VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS. It may still work with older software, but we cannot test every combination.

Known limitations

We aim for full conformance, and we are not aware of any part of this website that currently falls short. That said, no website is ever finished. Content is added over time, and documents, images or embedded material can introduce problems we have not caught.

If you find something that does not work for you, we would genuinely rather know. Reports from people using the site are more useful than any tool we run.

How we will respond

We aim to acknowledge every accessibility report within one business day. We will tell you what we plan to do and roughly when, and we will get you the information or the help you were looking for in the meantime, by phone or email, while we fix the underlying problem.

If you are not satisfied with our response, please say so and we will look at it again.
