Day Habilitation
Daytime activities that build skills, confidence and real connections in the community.

Day Habilitation gives structure to the day and a reason to look forward to it. It supports people to build practical skills, spend time with others, and take part in the life of their community rather than watching it from a window.
A good day program is not a room with a television in it. Activities are chosen with the person: cooking, using public transportation, handling money, volunteering, exercise, art, music, work experience. The point is that skills learned here get used in real life.
We pay attention to what people are actually interested in. Someone who loves being outdoors should not spend their week indoors, and someone who wants to work should be building toward that.
Who may benefit
Day Habilitation may suit someone who wants structure during the day, opportunities to learn practical skills, and regular contact with other people.
It often works well alongside other support, and can be a good stepping stone for someone thinking about employment.
Examples of support
- Cooking, shopping and managing money
- Using buses and getting around independently
- Volunteering and work experience in the local community
- Exercise, sport and time outdoors
- Art, music and creative activities
- Practicing communication and building friendships
What this service does not cover
Day Habilitation is an educational and skill-building service. It is not clinical therapy, medical treatment or formal schooling, and it does not include therapy services that must be delivered by a licensed clinician.
The hours available are set through the individual plan and program authorization. Availability depends on staffing and on transport arrangements in each area.
