Host Home / Companion Care

Living as part of a household with a trained provider, in an ordinary family home.

In Host Home or Companion Care, a person lives in the home of a trained provider who shares day-to-day life with them. It is one of the most family-like arrangements in the HCS program, and for many people it is the closest thing to simply living with people who care about them.

Matching is the heart of this service, and we do not rush it. We look at routines, interests, pets, faith, food, noise, quiet, and the small things that decide whether a household actually works. Everyone meets before anything is agreed, and nobody is placed anywhere they have not chosen.

Host home providers are recruited carefully, trained, and supported by our team. They are not left to manage on their own. We stay involved, visit regularly, and are reachable when something needs sorting out.

Who may benefit

This arrangement often suits someone who does well in a smaller, quieter household and who would rather be part of a family than live in a group setting.

It can also work well for people who want long-term stability with one or two consistent people around them, rather than a rota of staff.

Examples of support

  • A room and a genuine place in a household
  • Everyday support with personal care and routines
  • Shared meals, shared outings and ordinary family life
  • Help getting to work, appointments and activities
  • Encouragement to keep up hobbies, friendships and family contact
  • Ongoing oversight, training and backup from our team

What this service does not cover

Host Home / Companion Care is not skilled nursing care and not a crisis placement. Providers are trained caregivers, not medical staff.

A match depends on a suitable provider being available, on assessment, and on program authorization. We will not place someone in a home that is not right for them simply because it is vacant, so timing varies.
