Residential Support
Round-the-clock support in a shared home, built around each person’s routines, goals and privacy.
Residential Support provides help in a home shared with a small number of other people, with staff available at all times. It is designed for people who want the independence of living in the community with the reassurance that support is always close by.
What that support looks like is different for everyone. For one person it may mean help with personal care and medication. For another it may be mostly about cooking together, managing a budget, or getting to work and back. We start by asking what a good day looks like, and we build the support around that answer rather than around a template.
Every home is somebody’s home first. People choose how their room looks, when they get up, what they eat, and who visits. Staff are there to support a life, not to run a facility.
Who may benefit
Residential Support may suit someone who needs support available throughout the day and night, who would like to live alongside others, and who is looking for a settled long-term home in the community.
It is often considered by families planning ahead for when informal support at home is no longer practical, and by people moving out of a more restrictive setting into community living.
Examples of support
- Help with bathing, dressing and personal care, at the level each person wants
- Medication support and coordination with health appointments
- Cooking together, shopping and planning meals
- Building daily living skills at each person’s own pace
- Getting to work, day programs, appointments and social plans
- Support to stay connected with family, friends and the wider community
What this service does not cover
Residential Support is not a nursing home and not a medical facility. We do not provide skilled nursing care, emergency medical treatment, psychiatric crisis care or secure detention.
Support is planned and reviewed as part of an individual plan. Availability depends on program authorization, on there being a suitable vacancy in a suitable home, and on staffing. A place cannot be guaranteed in advance of that process.
